Somebody in the 138th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while De'Zhaun Stribling, the No. 111 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at fair value. A real need, handled.
Value with a capital V on Lee Hunter in pick No. 58, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Jalen Farmer was still sitting there in No. 127, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had Bishop Fitzgerald higher than slot 133, and the safety fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They will replay De'Zhaun Stribling at Round 4, Pick 38 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah World at the 139th pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
