The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Malik Muhammad, the No. 102 name on the board, sitting there at No. 127 like a gift left on the doorstep. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Iheanachor reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 28 they get protection for the quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Christen Miller went about where he belonged in pick No. 58. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Skyler Bell at No. 106 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Malik Muhammad in slot 127 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jack Endries slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 33 is lovely value for the tight end. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Jakobe Thomas at the 138th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
By-the-book stuff, DeMonte Capehart at the 139th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
