The Noah Thomas selection is the head-turner. The Cowboys reached 125 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.
Majors falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Ashton Jeanty in pick No. 7, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
In pick 14 they get a load in the middle at fair value. A real need, handled.
Shavon Revel Jr. in the Round 1 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
In the 29th pick they get an enforcer at safety, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A clean fit for the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Amos this early at No. 38. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach on Alfred Collins in the 45th pick; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Value said wait; Charles Grant in pick 69 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Dillon Gabriel in the 76th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Danny Stutsman in slot 105 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on Jake Slaughter at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Chris Paul Jr. still on the board at Round 5, Pick 30. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ollie Gordon II at pick No. 169 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a linebacker like Cody Simon reach No. 170 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cam Skattebo in pick No. 171 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
They liked Addison West enough to skip the value, taking him in the 172nd overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Jake Majors was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Eli Stowers in Round 6, Pick 29 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jack Kiser at slot 209 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Noah Thomas well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Clay Webb here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
