The Cowboys lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

Reaching for Gillotte left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. With wide receiver, linebacker and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
