The Drew Allar pick is the one that will follow the Falcons into the fall. They took him 51 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
Lee Hunter at Round 2, Pick 16 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Germie Bernard at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Connor Lew at par in pick No. 79, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; Drew Allar in No. 105 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Oscar Delp at the 128th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Keyshaun Elliott in slot 215, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Noah Whittington at the 231st pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
