The Falcons spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They are betting Thomas proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Thrash at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 10 they get a long-term answer under center. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Keon Coleman at pick No. 42 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had Cooper DeJean higher than the Round 3 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy little value on Sataoa Laumea in the 147th pick, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 13 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Xavier Thomas this early at slot 204. A need, and now a little less of one.
Justin Eboigbe at the 231st overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steele Chambers in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
