Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Michael Barrett got past him. The Falcons do not have to explain a thing at slot 230. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They punted on offensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They will need Harris Jr. to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 9 they get a disruptor off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Wilson at slot 73, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at Round 4, Pick 9 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
They let Mike Sainristil come to them and pounced at the 146th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jacob Cowing is a better player than the 187th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A quiet steal in pick No. 206: De'Corian Clark for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A conviction pick on Donell Harris Jr. at pick 249 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
