If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Eric Gregory at pick No. 150 is 121 spots clear of where he belonged.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Bryant pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot.
Jihaad Campbell at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Deone Walker is a better player than pick No. 76 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Eric Gregory in No. 150 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A conviction pick on Antwane Wells Jr. at Round 5, Pick 31 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Phil Mafah in slot 172 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, JJ Pegues went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cobee Bryant at the 190th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Fair-plus on Craig Woodson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They read the board right and Clay Webb was the payoff at slot 249. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
