Somebody in No. 145 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Charles Grant, the No. 98 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Fortune has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get juice off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reach for Aireontae Ersery in pick 38; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Isaiah Bond, who had no business lasting to pick 69. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
O'Donnell Fortune at Round 3, Pick 13 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A minor itch, scratched.
Brashard Smith at the 105th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Charles Grant in No. 145 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jonas Sanker in pick No. 219. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jahvaree Ritzie at the 222nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brant Kuithe in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
