After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Cowing has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
In the 27th pick they get a potential shutdown corner, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cooper DeJean in pick No. 36. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jordan Morgan at the 40th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ricky Pearsall at No. 67 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Patrick Paul at pick 78 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had Calen Bullock higher than Round 3, Pick 37, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Ben Sinnott in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jacob Cowing at pick No. 139 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
