Nobody had Mycah Pittman this high, and it is not close. The Chargers reached 128 spots to get him at pick 226. The bottom line is a respectable B.
However the rest shakes out, Alt at that price is a win they earned. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Taking Joe Alt in the 37th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Brenden Rice at Round 3, Pick 5 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Luke McCaffrey. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Frank Gore Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Leonard Taylor III at par in slot 105, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jared Wiley at pick No. 142 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They talked themselves into Joe Milton III at the 145th pick, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Value said wait; Chad Lindberg in Round 5, Pick 19 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Michael Barrett at No. 183 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Mycah Pittman at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
