They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Riley Leonard, 75 picks early at the 78th pick.
They banked enough surplus on Higgins to cover a lot of smaller sins. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Armand Membou in pick 47 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Riley Leonard at the 78th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Vernon Broughton at pick No. 113 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jay Higgins at Round 5, Pick 14 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
