The Chiefs did not so much draft Jordan James as overpay for him, 48 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
Getting Emmanwori where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get an anchor for the offensive line, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ashton Gillotte in pick No. 64, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Colston Loveland at the 69th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Danny Stutsman in the 96th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Tez Johnson in Round 5, Pick 32 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Jalon Walker went about where he belonged in pick 193. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
