The Chiefs put a flag in the ground for J.C. Davis, 31 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
That Styles pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Mansoor Delane at par in the 9th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
In No. 29 they get the heartbeat of the defense, and a steal at that.
By-the-book stuff, Zion Young at the 40th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value said wait; Bryce Lance in pick 74 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
J.C. Davis in pick No. 109 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Malik Benson at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had Beau Stephens higher than the 169th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Kaleb Elarms-Orr in pick No. 176, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach on Bobby Jamison-Travis in the Round 6 slot; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
