The rest of the league will want that one back. A.J. Haulcy tumbling to the Chiefs in the 74th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They are betting Halton proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Kadyn Proctor · OT · rank 14
In slot 9 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Chris Brazzell II · WR · rank 29
In No. 29 they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · D'Angelo Ponds · CB · rank 47
By-the-book stuff, D'Angelo Ponds at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · A.J. Haulcy · S · rank 49
A.J. Haulcy at Round 3, Pick 10 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 93
The board had Bryce Lance higher than pick No. 109, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Gracen Halton · DL · rank 125
Gracen Halton in the 110th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.8 · Pick 148 · Beau Stephens · OG · rank 158
A premium they did not need to pay, Beau Stephens a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.29 · Pick 169 · Kaleb Elarms-Orr · LB · rank 176
They paid sticker price for Kaleb Elarms-Orr in pick 169, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
R5.36 · Pick 176 · DJ Campbell · OG · rank 183
No edge and no loss on DJ Campbell in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.29 · Pick 210 · Kaelon Black · RB · rank 211
No drama and no debate, Kaelon Black went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 29. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.5 · Pick 221 · Zavion Thomas · WR · rank 219
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zavion Thomas. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
