There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Jaylen Wright a full 29 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Speights at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a downhill hitter at safety, reach and all. Need was not the driver here.
They paid sticker price for Byron Murphy II in slot 41, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Adisa Isaac at the 57th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Sedrick Van Pran at par in Round 3, Pick 25, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Mike Sainristil slid further than he should have, and the 91st overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaylen Wright in the Round 4 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach for Braelon Allen in pick 135; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in No. 203: Christian Jones for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Myles Jones was the payoff at the 217th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Omar Speights at the 219th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Jase McClellan graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Demani Richardson slipping to Round 7, Pick 26 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
