Boards are made to be trusted, and the Eagles shredded theirs for Mason Fairchild. He came off 57 spots early, and the room will hear about it. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
The Coleman pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Cooper DeJean and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a weapon on the perimeter, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In No. 31 they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Troy Fautanu reach Round 2, Pick 18 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Keon Coleman at slot 62 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 72, where Jonathon Brooks graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Payton Wilson, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Junior Colson adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher and interior defensive lineman untouched.
Good price on Spencer Rattler in pick No. 97, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Jaden Hicks at pick 137 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cam Hart in slot 167 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaylen Wright slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the running back. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kitan Oladapo at Round 5, Pick 37 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
They jumped the gun on Andrew Raym, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled LaDarius Henderson all the way to the 184th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Christian Jones at pick No. 230 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mason Fairchild well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Steele Chambers is a better player than Round 7, Pick 25 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Joshua Cephus at pick 254 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
