The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Jordan Phillips slide 57 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a workhorse for the backfield, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
A tidy little value on Jihaad Campbell in the 44th pick, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Alfred Collins at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kyren Lacy at Round 5, Pick 11 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jordan Phillips at slot 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Anthony Belton at pick 172 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Tommi Hill still on the board at No. 174. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Joshua Gray in pick No. 190 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
DJ Giddens in No. 211 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ja'Corey Brooks in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
