Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Troy Franklin got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at the 57th overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

Every board in the league had McGlothern lower, and that gap is the story. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Hicks pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still on the board. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
