The Texans torched the value chart for Isaiah Nwokobia, taking him 172 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Landing Delane that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 28 they get protection for the quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Seth McGowan in the Round 2 slot, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Rayshaun Benny in pick 59 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into Isaiah Nwokobia at Round 3, Pick 5, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A wild overpay on Ar'maj Reed-Adams in slot 106, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Mansoor Delane was still sitting there in the 141st pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A real head-scratcher, Desmond Reid in pick No. 167 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Colbie Young in Round 7, Pick 27 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
