Somebody in the 256th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Ethan Driskell, the No. 192 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The Sinnott reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Malik Nabers went about where he belonged in the 5th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Kris Jenkins at slot 37 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Sedrick Van Pran at pick No. 69 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ben Sinnott. It fills a real need, too.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Braelon Allen well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Cam Hart in No. 183, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Josh Proctor in pick 223 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ethan Driskell at Round 7, Pick 36 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
