Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers won the night they stopped Grable from sliding. Grade: A-.

If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Chargers, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.

They banked enough surplus on Grable to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

Bottom line, with Amarius Mims leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 24
In the 24th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 35
They did well to land Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in pick 38, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 45
T'Vondre Sweat at the 48th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 62
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Frazier. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Ja'Lynn Polk · WR · rank 73
Ja'Lynn Polk at Round 3, Pick 5 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.33 · Pick 96 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 96
They paid sticker price for Brenden Rice in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 106
No drama and no debate, Braelon Allen went about where he belonged in No. 105. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 105
A tidy little value on Zak Zinter in pick 110, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 137
Jaylin Simpson in the 140th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 181
No edge and no loss on Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 6, Pick 6; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.1 · Pick 221 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 206
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jared Wiley at the Round 7 slot is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 226
By-the-book stuff, Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 225 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · Tylan Grable · OT · rank 231
Somehow Tylan Grable was still sitting there in slot 253, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
