Call it larceny. Bub Means sat on the board until the 239th overall pick, and the Dolphins did not need to be asked twice.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Nugent to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
T.J. Tampa is a better player than slot 55 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Payton Wilson in pick No. 69. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at the 71st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Johnny Wilson slipping to the 90th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach on Drake Nugent in Round 5, Pick 1; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Javon Foster at No. 139 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nehemiah Pritchett at pick 162. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Kitan Oladapo in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Roger Rosengarten in slot 200 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Bub Means at pick 239 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
