Somebody took the Bills to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
That Rutledge pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Payton pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
If Sonny Styles and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a three-down second-level presence, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Christen Miller in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Bryce Lance at pick No. 95 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Keylan Rutledge at the 126th overall pick is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bishop Fitzgerald at No. 131. It fills a real need, too.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kage Casey in Round 5, Pick 25. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Eric Rivers at pick 168, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 182 with a little surplus value in Kaleb Elarms-Orr. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They liked Cole Payton enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 188. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took TJ Hall at par in Round 7, Pick 4, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
