When the story of this class is written, it opens with Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 104th pick, a reach of 44 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
J.J. McCarthy is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Jones falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Guyton in pick No. 34, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They went early on Patrick Paul in slot 35, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and Ja'Tavion Sanders was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. It fills a real need, too.
