The Mycah Pittman selection is the head-turner. The Chargers reached 128 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup weapon at tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
A conviction pick on Kris Jenkins at the 37th pick that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Blake Corum at slot 69 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Fair-plus on Blake Fisher, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Michael Barrett in pick No. 142, miles early. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Chad Lindberg in No. 183 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Mycah Pittman at pick 226, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
