Miami Dolphins

A costly weekend of dealing drags the Dolphins to a C.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Dolphins took Mason Reiger at the 75th pick, roughly 69 spots before his name belonged.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. However the rest shakes out, Scott at that price is a win they earned.

They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Hit on Gabe Jacas and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.11 · Pick 43 · Gabe Jacas · LB-EDGE · rank 63
A wild overpay on Gabe Jacas in the Round 2 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Mason Reiger · LB-EDGE · rank 144
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Mason Reiger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Darrell Jackson Jr. · DT · rank 96
A reach on Darrell Jackson Jr. in Round 3, Pick 23; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Keionte Scott · CB · rank 61
Keionte Scott in pick No. 94 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 101
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nicholas Singleton at slot 110 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Mike Washington Jr. · RB · rank 116
They took Mike Washington Jr. at par in pick 116, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Eli Raridon · TE · rank 133
A premium they did not need to pay, Eli Raridon a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Harold Perkins Jr. · LB · rank 129
No edge and no loss on Harold Perkins Jr. in Round 4, Pick 30; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 152
By-the-book stuff, Drew Allar at the 151st pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.15 · Pick 155 · Jalen Farmer · OG · rank 160
Jalen Farmer in pick No. 155 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.27 · Pick 167 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 171
Domani Jackson at the 167th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R5.30 · Pick 170 · Marlin Klein · TE · rank 172
Marlin Klein at No. 170 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
R6.8 · Pick 189 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 183
Good price on Jeff Caldwell in pick 189, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Lander Barton · LB · rank 221
They did well to land Lander Barton in slot 227, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.18 · Pick 234 · Charles Demmings · CB · rank 227
Charles Demmings in No. 234 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.19 · Pick 235 · Bryce Foster · C · rank 247
Bryce Foster at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Logan Taylor · OG · rank 258
They left a pile of value on the table to take Logan Taylor this early at slot 238. The roster fit checks out.
R7.30 · Pick 246 · Joshua Braun · OG · rank 285
Joshua Braun at pick 246 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
