Miami Dolphins

Good, not great, for the Dolphins: B.

The Dolphins went off the board in a big way for Eric Gentry, 97 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

The Stowers pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Jeremiyah Love · RB · rank 2
In the 11th overall pick they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.31 · Pick 31 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 39
In the 31st pick they get a long-term starter on the line, reach and all. A real need, handled.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Caleb Banks · DL · rank 42
A clean, defensible pick in No. 47 with a little surplus value in Caleb Banks. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Zachariah Branch · WR · rank 60
A tidy bit of business in slot 75, where Zachariah Branch graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Keionte Scott · CB · rank 61
Somehow Keionte Scott was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 26, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Eli Stowers · TE · rank 52
Eli Stowers in pick No. 92 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 54
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 94 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Eli Raridon · TE · rank 133
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Eli Raridon. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Zxavian Harris · DT · rank 150
By-the-book stuff, Zxavian Harris at the 151st pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.40 · Pick 180 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 183
They took Jeff Caldwell at par in pick 180, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.16 · Pick 197 · VJ Payne · S · rank 190
VJ Payne in the Round 6 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R6.17 · Pick 198 · Ephesians Prysock · CB · rank 185
Ephesians Prysock is a better player than the 198th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.2 · Pick 218 · Jimmy Rolder · LB · rank 212
Jimmy Rolder in slot 218 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Charles Demmings · CB · rank 227
Charles Demmings in No. 227 is fair value, right on his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.15 · Pick 231 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 230
No drama and no debate, Eli Heidenreich went about where he belonged in No. 231. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.18 · Pick 234 · Isaiah Jatta · OT · rank 237
No edge and no loss on Isaiah Jatta in the 234th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
R7.19 · Pick 235 · Trey Zuhn III · OT · rank 239
Trey Zuhn III in pick 235 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Nolan Rucci · OT · rank 250
They liked Nolan Rucci enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 238. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Logan Taylor · OG · rank 258
They reached a country mile for Logan Taylor at Round 7, Pick 23, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.25 · Pick 241 · Adam Randall · RB · rank 275
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Adam Randall. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.28 · Pick 244 · Bryce Foster · C · rank 247
A straight-up fair deal on Bryce Foster at pick No. 244, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.30 · Pick 246 · Marvin Jones Jr. · LB-EDGE · rank 337
Value said wait; Marvin Jones Jr. in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.40 · Pick 256 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 353
Eric Gentry in the 256th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
R7.41 · Pick 257 · Riley Mahlman · OT · rank 293
Riley Mahlman at No. 257 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
