The Dolphins torched the value chart for Isaiah Jatta, taking him 75 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Scott pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The veteran additions, Malik Hooker chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Jeremiyah Love was the payoff at pick No. 12. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Chris Brazzell II at Round 1, Pick 31, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good price on Emmanuel Pregnon in the 43rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Keionte Scott at slot 75. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Sam Roush in the 87th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Ja'Kobi Lane in pick 90, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Michael Trigg enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 94. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dametrious Crownover this early at Round 3, Pick 31. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Isaiah World a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zxavian Harris. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Jalen Farmer in the 152nd pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A wild overpay on Isaiah Jatta in No. 162, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Febechi Nwaiwu in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Domani Jackson at pick No. 177 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Jeff Caldwell at pick 180 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jimmy Rolder at the 220th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Nwankpa in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board had Eli Heidenreich higher than the 238th overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Nolan Rucci at par in No. 250, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Logan Taylor at pick No. 253 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
