The Dolphins spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: A.J. Haulcy, the No. 49 name on the board, in the 94th pick. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback went begging. They will need Barton to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a bell-cow for the offense at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 30th pick they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Chris Brazzell II in Round 2, Pick 11 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 61 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Eli Stowers at No. 75 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in pick No. 87 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Taking Jake Slaughter in the 90th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Jake Golday here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with A.J. Haulcy while clear needs at quarterback sat open.
Ted Hurst slid further than he should have, and slot 97 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tacario Davis in the 112th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Circle this one: Michael Trigg at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They let Eli Raridon come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 11. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Zxavian Harris at the 152nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Fair-plus on Domani Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A straight-up fair deal on Jeff Caldwell at No. 180, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Lander Barton in Round 6, Pick 23 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Owen Heinecke at No. 227 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Eli Heidenreich in slot 237 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid up for Bryce Foster at the 238th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
