The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Joshua Braun at the 238th overall pick regardless, 46 picks early. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
McNeil-Warren at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, reach and all. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Joshua Josephs in Round 2, Pick 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Derrick Moore in the 43rd overall pick says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Eli Stowers here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jake Slaughter at pick No. 90 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at No. 92 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
A tidy bit of business in the 94th pick, where Ted Hurst graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Devin Moore in pick 116 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Nice patience on Justin Joly, who had no business lasting to the 130th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Drew Allar at pick No. 151 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jeff Caldwell in the Round 6 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaiah Jatta at Round 7, Pick 5 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Nolan Rucci at No. 227, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They talked themselves into Logan Taylor at slot 229, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, Joshua Braun in Round 7, Pick 22 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
