When a board-topper like Jake Slaughter slides to pick 91, you do not overthink it, and the Dolphins did not. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Green pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 30 they get protection for the quarterback, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Gabe Jacas at Round 2, Pick 15 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the 75th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Eli Stowers at pick No. 87 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Jake Slaughter all the way to the 91st pick, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy bit of business in pick 92, where Mike Washington Jr. graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Devin Moore in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Elijah Sarratt at the 112th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Demond Claiborne at slot 130 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Drew Allar at par in Round 5, Pick 11, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taylen Green at pick No. 152 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Lander Barton in No. 215; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, Owen Heinecke a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
TJ Hall in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Thaddeus Dixon is a better player than pick 231 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Isaiah Jatta in pick No. 238 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They jumped the gun on Logan Taylor, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nolan Rucci in the 254th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
