You build a draft on nights like this. Devin Neal had no business being available in the 179th pick, and the Dolphins did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They are betting Rogers proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Malaki Starks at the 48th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Tate Ratledge at the 98th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Carson Schwesinger in No. 123 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 133 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Jake Majors in Round 5, Pick 12 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for Darius Alexander here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; Devin Neal at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Hayden Conner in No. 218, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Thor Griffith well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Bhayshul Tuten was still sitting there in the 231st overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Will Rogers in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
