There is reaching, and then there is Nazir Stackhouse at pick No. 115. The Dolphins jumped the board by 70 and dared it to prove them wrong. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Arroyo at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. It is not that Starks is a bad player; it is that the Dolphins had louder needs to answer first. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 20 they get a centerfielder for the defense. Need was not the driver here.
Nice patience on Tate Ratledge, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A want over a need in pick No. 55: Malaki Starks adds a safety while quarterback and edge rusher keeps waiting.
A wild overpay on Jack Nelson in the 87th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Tez Johnson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Deontae Lawson in Round 3, Pick 35, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.

Cam Skattebo in the 149th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cody Simon at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Davison Igbinosun at pick No. 164 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Circle this one: Elijah Arroyo at the 224th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jared Wilson at Round 7, Pick 15 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyler Cooper at No. 251 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
