The Dolphins spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Dwight McGlothern, the No. 161 name on the board, in slot 184. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Van Pran reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
A reach for Sedrick Van Pran in No. 55; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nelson Ceaser at pick No. 158 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Dwight McGlothern in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jaylan Ford in the 198th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
They jumped the gun on Jalen Coker, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
