The Dolphins spent real capital to be 76 picks early on J.J. Weaver, and the board is going to hold them to it. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
On value alone, Thomas Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Graham Barton at pick No. 42 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 55th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Edgerrin Cooper come to them and pounced at the 59th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Mike Sainristil is a better player than Round 3, Pick 23 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Isaiah Adams still on the board at slot 158. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Andrew Raym at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Josh Proctor in pick 198 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
J.J. Weaver at slot 241 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay JD Bertrand at No. 247 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
