Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Dolphins came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
That Rouse pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If Boyd pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Fair-plus on Junior Colson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid up for Blake Fisher at pick No. 108 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A wild overpay on Khristian Boyd in the 158th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Walter Rouse reach Round 6, Pick 9 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Ryan Flournoy in pick 198 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy little value on Dominique Hampton in pick No. 241, a step better than break-even. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
