The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Dolphins watched Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint slide 52 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
So much rides on Laiatu Latu that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 27 they get a problem off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Brian Thomas Jr. is a better player than the 35th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Braden Fiske in No. 59 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had cheaper options than Cooper Beebe at pick No. 66, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They let Caelen Carson come to them and pounced at pick 105. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A reach on Ben Sinnott in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Matt Goncalves was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 28. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
James Williams at the 137th pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Jacob Cowing still on the board at the 186th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow Walter Rouse was still sitting there in the 200th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Nathaniel Watson in pick No. 239 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at slot 250 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
