You build a draft on nights like this. Cam Skattebo had no business being available in pick 252, and the Dolphins did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The cost of the Miller reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 13 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 58th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach on Ajani Cornelius in the 97th pick; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They did well to land Jake Majors in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Jack Bech higher than pick No. 114, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Malachi Moore here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cam Miller in slot 138 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Hayden Conner at par in Round 5, Pick 12, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kyren Lacy at pick 154 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Cody Simon at slot 165 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Jay Higgins was still sitting there in pick No. 224, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A wild overpay on Thor Griffith in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ben Sauls at the 241st overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at No. 252. The roster fit checks out.
