Miami Dolphins

Grand theft in the Round 7 slot: the Dolphins steal Mondon Jr. and grade out a B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 100 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 224. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

Griffith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Tetairoa McMillan · WR · rank 4
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 14
Malaki Starks in slot 48 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.34 · Pick 98 · Demetrius Knight Jr. · LB · rank 61
Demetrius Knight Jr. in Round 3, Pick 34 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.13 · Pick 114 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 58
They will replay TreVeyon Henderson at pick 114 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
R4.32 · Pick 133 · Barrett Carter · LB · rank 80
Barrett Carter at No. 133 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
R5.12 · Pick 149 · Hayden Conner · OG · rank 148
By-the-book stuff, Hayden Conner at pick No. 149 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.17 · Pick 154 · Mello Dotson · CB · rank 130
A cornerback of that caliber at the 154th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.8 · Pick 224 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 100
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Smael Mondon Jr. in the 224th overall pick, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.15 · Pick 231 · Thor Griffith · DL · rank 283
A wild overpay on Thor Griffith in the 231st overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.36 · Pick 252 · Seth McLaughlin · C · rank 211
Seth McLaughlin in slot 252 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
