You could see the war room lean forward. Jack Kiser at Round 7, Pick 28 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The cost of the Griffith reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Warren at the 59th overall pick is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Deone Walker in the 80th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Xavier Watts here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Steal is underselling it; Kaleb Johnson at pick No. 93 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 34 with a little surplus value in Tai Felton. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Brashard Smith at No. 147 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Seth McLaughlin in slot 202, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Thor Griffith in pick 236 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Jack Kiser was still sitting there in pick 244, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
