Somebody in the 226th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Giants sat still while Ro Torrence, the No. 177 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
Reaching for Chambers left real value on the table behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
You do not let a cornerback like Kool-Aid McKinstry reach the 47th overall pick and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A conviction pick on Christian Mahogany at the Round 3 slot that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tommy Eichenberg at Round 4, Pick 7 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No drama and no debate, Matt Goncalves went about where he belonged in pick No. 112. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in No. 141, where Johnny Wilson graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Steele Chambers in the 148th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Taking Isaiah Adams in pick 162 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took AJ Barner at par in the 168th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Isaiah Davis slid further than he should have, and slot 170 is lovely value for the running back. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Javontae Jean-Baptiste. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Ro Torrence here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Caedan Wallace at No. 235 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
