Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jamari Thrash got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at the 126th overall pick.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. With running back, edge rusher and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Devontez Walker in Round 2, Pick 26. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They bypassed pressing needs at running back, edge rusher and other spots to take Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE that was not the priority.
By-the-book stuff, Sataoa Laumea at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jamari Thrash at the 126th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on LaDarius Henderson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kitan Oladapo at slot 167 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nathaniel Watson at pick 239 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had Eric Gentry higher than pick 247, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
