Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Commanders spent the 250th overall pick on Barryn Sorrell, a name most had 78 spots down the list.
Mondon Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a two-high chess piece, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Aireontae Ersery in the Round 2 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quinshon Judkins slid further than he should have, and pick 79 is lovely value for the running back. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Smael Mondon Jr. still on the board at the 148th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A slide stopped in pick No. 207, with Jason Marshall Jr. worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a linebacker like Jamon Dumas-Johnson reach No. 238 and blink. They did not. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Barryn Sorrell at pick No. 250 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
