You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Packers spent pick No. 41 on T.J. Tampa while edge rusher, cornerback and other spots sat unaddressed. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Henderson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Thomas Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, T.J. Tampa adds a defensive back and leaves edge rusher, cornerback and other spots untouched.
Cooper Beebe in the 43rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid a round early for TreVeyon Henderson in the 73rd pick, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brian Thomas Jr. is a better player than No. 82 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyleik Williams at Round 4, Pick 9, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Cole Bishop in slot 135, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
