The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Dixon pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. The cost of the Hopper reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid sticker price for Matt Goncalves in the 108th overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Marcus Harris well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ty'Ron Hopper. A minor itch, scratched.
Tip Reiman at slot 177 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Curtis Jacobs in No. 180, miles early. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tahj Washington in pick 230, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Frank Gore Jr. in the 231st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Johnny Dixon in Round 7, Pick 12 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
