Of all the ways to open, the Eagles chose the head-scratcher, spending the 97th overall pick on Maason Smith with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still wide open.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Smith falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

They went 2 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
