Somebody in No. 194 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Johnny Wilson, the No. 126 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Olumuyiwa Fashanu is a better player than pick No. 25 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Terrion Arnold at Round 2, Pick 17 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kamari Lassiter at the 58th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Devontez Walker in slot 88 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Renardo Green in the Round 3 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They will replay Max Melton at the 97th pick for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Dominick Puni still on the board at No. 126. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Josh Newton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Roger Rosengarten in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Johnny Wilson at pick No. 194 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Isaiah Davis in the 202nd overall pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steele Chambers at the 219th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Evan Williams in Round 7, Pick 25 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A cornerback of that caliber at No. 255 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
