The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 37 spots for Trajan Jeffcoat, and value like that does not grow back.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Chambers where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 87th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ray Davis at slot 101 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. The roster fit checks out.
They read the board right and Jaylin Simpson was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 38. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Myles Murphy in pick 216 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trajan Jeffcoat well ahead of where he belonged. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Steele Chambers at the 244th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
