The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Bo Nix, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Reaching for Milton III left real value on the table behind him.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Bo Nix at par in slot 27, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Brian Thomas Jr. higher than No. 34, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Amarius Mims come to them and pounced at the 35th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Devontez Walker went about where he belonged in the 68th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A conviction pick on Cedric Gray at the Round 4 slot that the board grades a round light. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Caelen Carson slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 4 is lovely value for the cornerback. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steal is underselling it; Sataoa Laumea at pick 137 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Joe Milton III at pick No. 180, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jared Wiley in the 193rd overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Johnny Dixon was still sitting there in slot 231, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
